HOW CAN WE CREATE A SAFE SPACE FOR LGBTQ+ TEENS TO PREPARE FOR THEIR FUTURE?

ColorU is a speculative brand design for an afterschool program for at-risk LGTBQ+ high schoolers preparing for college.

Many queer youth have obstacles to receiving a quality education in NYC. Inside school, 60% of queer students feel unsafe due to their orientation and 35% feel unsafe to to their gender identity. Outside of school, 40% of homeless youth in NYC are LGBTQ+. Interviewing LGTBQ+ high schoolers reinforced those statistics, with many expressing a desire for a space outside of school and home where they could feel safe.

As a speculative non-profit solution to this problem, ColorU was created from concept, name, logo, to visual identity across print and digital. ColorU offers a safe study space with computer access, academic tutoring, as well as career and college counselors. Supporting this idea, ColorU’s name and logo was created from a sense of uplifting optimism in an inclusive academic-focused community for young people.
