HOW DO YOU MAKE A WEBSITE AS CHARMING AS ITS RESTAURANT?

I created a more cohesive, intuitive, and attractive design before collaborating with developers to implement the design into a functional end product.

a.
BRIEF
Win Son is a trendy Taiwanese-American restaurant in Brooklyn whose website didn't match its authentic, quirky branding found in person or on Instagram.

For this product, I was unable to perform in-depth research. However, I based my design decisions on the weaknesses of the current Win Son website. Currently, the website suffers from unclear navigation and its very difficult to find information. Furthermore, the design is bare with limited visual elements and media, not reflecting the restaurant’s cuisine and personality. How might we help Win Son align their web presence to their brand that is reflective of the type of food they serve while providing customers more information?

b.
PROTOTYPING
To articulate the designs, I participated in a team of UX designers facilitated a meeting with the web developers. I then performed three rounds of rapid, collaborative sketching accompanied by individual feedback. The final sketches combined multiple aspects from the studio to present our MVP, the basis for initial wireframes and prototype.

Using a MoSCoW map, I determined our initial MVP features to be:

  • Menu
  • About
  • Contact Us
  • Press
  • Newsletter
  • Reviews

I created my responsive design across three platforms of Mobile, Tablet, and Desktop, to enable users to find the information the need on any platform.

REFLECTION

Working with developers greatly strengthened my own sense of how to make practical designs. Having a strong sense of effort vs. impact when it comes to implementing interfaces makes one a stronger designer.
